Two Loves

(1997)
A novel by

Rosamund Gilchrist is restless. She has lived her life so far in supporting roles: widowed third wife of the much older Anthony, a famous poet; mother of the enchanting Joss; daughter of eccentric divorced parents; and mistress of her neighbor, Thomas. But that affair is now over and Rosamund must face the facts--if she wants anything of her own she must venture out of her country sanctuary and make a life for herself.

Then Rosamund is suddenly drawn into a feud between Anthony's former mistress, Erica, and his second ex-wife, Molly. Old, ill and in need of money, Erica plans to publish erotic poems written for her by Anthony decades ago. Molly still holds Erica responsible for the breakdown of her marriage and is determined to thwart her.

Compassionate, impulsive and nave, and stirred by a love story begun long before she met her husband, Rosamund is compelled to travel to London to mediate the feud. And in a charged atmosphere of re-kindled passions, she finds herself facing new and challenging experiences which change her life in unexpected ways...

Sian James has crafted a subtle, incisive and slyly funny novel about the complexities of love, old and new.
