Caz Flood is ready for her first day as a detective constable - no more pounding the beat, no more directing traffic, no more navy blue uniform. Before deciding what to wear for this new day on the job, she goes out for her usual early morning run - only to find on her return that her first case is a little too close to home. A gay neighbor has been brutally murdered in his bed; all the signs point to a lovers' quarrel. But within hours, a second mutilated corpse is found. Suddenly the police have what looks like a homophobic serial killer targeting the town's well-established gay community. Forensic evidence points to the same killer, the same motive, but Caz, an intuitive detective, questions the obvious. Unfortunately her superiors want a quick resolution to quiet the press, and ignore her theories. Meanwhile, Caz begins a relationship with Val Thomas, a colleague of the first victim. But as Caz's own investigation continues, mounting evidence suggests Val is at least an important material witness or, at worst, the prime suspect for the murders....
