When the Tuesday morning edition of the Crayton Daily News fails to reach the breakfast tables at LeeAnn's Diner by 6:30 a.m. as it has for the past forty years, Ozarks Sheriff Colby Tate finds himself investigating the death of the paper's eccentric owner and publisher, Maury Shobe. Unprinted plates of the biweekly suggest the newsman was preparing to break two headline stories, one that would ruin an influential businessman and a major community development project, and one with critical details yet to be revealed. While Tate and new wife, Police Chief Grace Torres, wade through a mire of Shobe family squabbles and county disputes to determine who might want the publisher dead, two hunters discover the remains of a newborn baby girl hidden off a trail in the Missouri woods. Tate's newest deputy, Brooke Beckett, is assigned to lead the child murder investigation, forcing the young officer to confront a dark secret from her own past.

With Tate challenged in an upcoming election by another deputy in his department, Beckett begins to openly question whether her boss is as tough on crime as he needs to be to lead. Her concern becomes a campaign issue when, only weeks before the election, clues lead Tate and Grace into Canada's maritime provinces on what his rival claims is a taxpayer-funded junket.

Who Murdered Maury Shobe and the forgotten baby in the Mark Twain Forest? Will the answers cost Tate the election and be the Ozarks sheriff's own final edition?

Though written as a stand-alone mystery, fans of Colby Tate will find "Final Edition" a satisfying and suspense-filled next step in this down-home mystery series.
