In my dream I am walking along a path covered in diamonds, desperately searching for where I left her. Where I left my baby. I know she's here somewhere, but I can't seem to remember where . . .

Tia has been having one recurring dream most of her life - ever since she was old enough to understand what being adopted really means. Since her teens it's been at the back of her mind that she should look for her birth family but she's not sure she wants to know them.

Now that her marriage is over and her adopted father has passed away, Tia decides to change her life, so packs up her young daughter and her eccentric mother, and heads from Yorkshire to Brighton to take up a once-in-a-lifetime job.

But a chance meeting blows her world apart and forces her to confront what happened to her 'real' parents. And as she is drawn deeper into their lives, her determination to never put her daughter through the abandonment she's constantly felt, is shaken to its foundations. Suddenly Tia is in turmoil about her life . . . will her fears and the revelations about her birth family lead her to commit murder?
