This is a ghost story set in 1950's Britain. The main protagonist is a young teenager, Jill Brown, who goes to stay with her aunt in Lincolnshire. She encounters a ghost which she believes is the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson (who once lived in the house) but is in fact a German airman shot down in WW2 and buried in the local churchyard. His spirit's anxiety is to get the story of his death to his parents so that they can cease grieving for a son who is simply listed as 'Missing In Action'. But, being German, the ghost speaks no English, so how does he communicate with Jill?
