Almost four hundred years ago, a strange ship was wrecked upon the beach of Broadsmouth, the only survivors a group of ailing foreigners... sorcerers from a far off land. And for almost four hundred years, all Jubaland has lived in fear of them. From time to time, each sorcerer demands 'tribute' be paid; sometimes with food and other provisions, sometimes with young women or young boys... and none who enter a sorcerer's tower are ever seen again.

Once, long ago, the King of Jubaland sent his finest knights to destroy Balingar, the most powerful of all the sorcerers and the nominal leader of the cabal. Alas, Balingar summoned his demons from the depths, and the King's Own Knights were utterly destroyed. As a warning, Balingar caused the waters of the longest and broadest river in the land to run blood red, and issued a simple threat: leave us in peace, or be destroyed.

Now, three hundred and seventy-two years from that first and terrifying 'Redwater Day', come three unlikely heroes; a thief, a scholar, and a librarian, who come together (two of them rather reluctantly) to liberate the land...
Not that they have much choice; it's probably death if they do, and certainly death if they don't.

The fate of all Jubaland lies now in the hands of three miscreant heretics who share one belief in common: that all sorcery is illusion, but that demons are real...
