A page-turning espionage novel that follows a war-hardened Spec Ops officer on a high-stakes mission beyond the Iron Curtain, as his agency is slowly upturned by an unseen Soviet mole.

The last time Michael Yam saw Max Feibel, he was fleeing a fate worse than death in Nazi-annexed Prague, while the former insisted on staying behind. Europe at the time had split between East and West, driving a wedge between the two friends along with it.

Amid a world caught in post-war turmoil, Michael, now a special operations officer for the newly formed Jewish state, is sent to rescue Holocaust survivors trapped behind the Iron Curtain. When word of nuclear scientist Max Feibel reaches his ears, Michael seizes the opportunity to exfiltrate him – a chance to repay his childhood friend a life-long debt, from their time growing up in the rural forests of Czechoslovakia.

But his dangerous search puts a target on Michael’s back as he is intercepted by the watchful eyes of the NKVD secret police at every turn. As he begins to suspect a mole within his ranks, Michael travels between Germany and Czechia, all the way to the closed city of Sarov and the Middle East, unraveling an intricate web of lies, manipulation, and treason tracing back to before the war.

Set against the onset of the Cold War, The Bear Trap is a slow-burn international thriller with Maor Kohn’s iconic multi-layered characters and tightly wound story of loyalty, betrayal, and the ultimate price all spies must pay.
