A Deadly State Of Mind

Following personal tragedy, criminal psychologist Dr. Alan Beck's life is in stasis. Only his work at a secure hospital for the criminally insane is a buffer to the loneliness, despair and overwhelming sense of guilt that has blighted his life and soured his outlook.
Detective Inspector Jack Randall cajoles Alan to consult and construct a profile on a serial killer who is brutally slaughtering entire families, with no apparent motive.
The killer - tagged The Butcher - is a homicidal psychopath, also suffering from split personality disorder. He leaves no trace evidence at crime scenes, and is a rare breed, in part a product of the childhood abuse he sustained at the hands of his father, which disenchanted him towards stable family units on whom he predates.
