Once activated, Wizard Tumboni's Ring will grant every wish, forever, to whoever possesses it. The only way to rid the universe of it is to wish it into non-existence on the Wishing Crag of Jetsandor. Bound by certain rules, the Fairy Blackstick entrusts the perilous mission to six characters so untrustworthy she does not even say which one carries the actual Ring. She does tell them that one or all could be killed on the journey, and gives each one a magic rose good for a single wish.
While neither historical fiction nor any attempt to recreate the Victorian world, this (largely) sportive Tolkien-Very-Light story calls on such Victorian novelist's techniques as multiple viewpoints, mini-essays along the way, and author chattily addressing reader as "I" and "you." Therefore, it arguably merits the modifier "neo-Victorian."
