The world may have "enough" translations of this great Middle English metrical romance, but can it ever have "too many"?
Phyllis Ann Karr caps more than half a century of loving this Middle English metrical romance by presenting her own new translation of it, along with a shortened version of the same, a new translation of the Bredbeddle version of the story, a translation of "The Avowing of Arthur (a much shorter metrical romance), a quick look at "Bricriu's Feast" (one of the sources for the Beheading Game), a new short story concerning Sir Mordred and the Green Knight, and a couple of essays, including one, begun in 1968 and rounded off in 2023, comparing and contrasting the Sir Gawain of this poem with Sir Ruthven of Gilbert & Sullivan's
Ruddigore. Her interpretation of GGK conflicts in certain important ways with that of every other literary critic she has yet encountered.
