Gilbert 'Gil' Clavering has spent most of his life as a spy working to protect England from foreign enemies. Moving to Leicestershire is the very last thing he wants to do but he must because he has to at least try to live an ordinary life for once.
The last thing he expects is to find himself spying on a completely different enemy - a woman. Gil finds her behaving suspiciously, creeping in and out of a neighbour's house in the dead of night.
