A brand new adventure in a Mountain Man series from Ash Lingam!
After their trip to Fort Boise and the battle with the Indian warrior Black Hawk, things finally return to normal on Rusty’s Mountain in the Rocky Mountains. In a mere three weeks, they are back to their regular routines. With the arrival of Spring and softening weather, the plants are blossoming, the bears are coming out of hibernation, and flowers and berries grace the wilderness in rainbow of colors. A great migration of birds returns to the valley, and the weather’s cycle has made a full circle: Spring has sprung.
Rusty Steel and Levi Beaver Johnson, fueled by their love for adventure, set out in the early morning for their favorite fishing spot. It is a perfect blend of work and play, a chance to escape the routine. The young mountain man and his mentor find joy in the simple act of sitting by the river, eagerly waiting for their first trout to strike.
Their recent acquaintance at Fort Boise gives them a surprise visit and has a new proposition. Sgt. Clay Carson has a detachment of ten soldiers, who are chasing three deserters lost somewhere in Yellowstone Valley and needs Levi’s and Rusty’s help to track them down before hostile Indians find them. If Blackfeet locate them first, they will be too late to save their lives. Once again, they strike out for another fifty dollars a week each. They know they can’t turn down the job for that much money. Even mountain men need to earn a few extra gold eagles to survive. Then again, that’s what friends are for.
