A novel by

Ex-Texas Ranger Rowdy Bates finds himself somewhere in the western Indian Territories. He agreed to meet along the trail to Colorado with Ranger Coffee and Tuc and Potak, the Tonkawa scouts. They all wanted to see the Rocky Mountains and maybe get lucky and see a buffalo or two. It was to be an adventure of a lifetime.

On the captain’s lone ride north, Rowdy finds an abandoned town. Not a ghost town but a settlement occupied only minutes before. Half-dry laundry festooned beside completely vacant houses. When he rode in, Bates noticed the colony had no name. The mystery builds as he nudges his horse toward the center of the fantom-like settlement. Not another person is in sight. The loud report of a heavy-caliber rifle — a man drops to the ground — horse’s hooves hammer the earth — then comes a long silence.

Follow Texas Rangers Rowdy Bates, Terry Coffee, and the two Indian scouts, Tuc & Potak, as they travel through one of the most dangerous places in the West — Beaver County. A no man’s land, also known as The Strip in the western reaches of the present-day Oklahoma Panhandle — where outlaws flee from Texas, Kansas, and Colorado to evade the law and hide out in the Territories.
