Noy lives in Thailand
(1967)(A book in the Children's Everywhere series)
A Picture Book by Astrid Lindgren
Photographs and story of young Thai girl. By the same author as the Adventures of Pippi Longstocking. Noy lives in a house on stilts. When it rains in her village -sometimes for months at a time - the river overflows its banks, but Noy's house stays dry. No one complains when the land is flooded, for the entire village depends on the river. When Noy and her little brother Tavi are not swimming or riding on water buffaloes, Noy is walking about in mud setting rice plants for her father, who is a farmer, or catching fish and crabs for dinner. On a very special day, Noy is taken to the great city of Bangkok, where her father will sell a boatload of melons. Noy has never been outside her village before and, bursting with excitement, she wanders off.
