Arthur Templeton has a novel to write and now, living out his life in a seaside care home, it's time to write it. It's about a retired detective, Stan, who encounters an impoverished, young woman, Shelley, and her eight year old son, in a dead end tenement block. Gradually, he and his wife befriend the mother and son as they struggle to escape a future of poverty, brutality and despair. There are so many obstacles in their way. The biggest obstacle of all is Brendan, the boy's father. When he disappears, they hope he will be gone for good. But that's not Brendan's way.
After the dramatic and harrowing events following his return, Stan is faced with a choice which will change all their lives forever, and will haunt him to the end of his days.
This is Stan's story but, as becomes clear, it is also Arthur's, and he has no way to end it.
Butterflies in Stormy Skies is a novel full of humour, drama, tragedy, despair and, ultimately, hope.
