Outlive

James Baggers is a thirty-three year old impoverished pianist with two young daughters and a wife, living in the city of London, in the country of New Rome in 2082. When James Baggers (whose nickname is "Baggs") falls and breaks his left arm, he does not have enough money to pay for proper medical treatment. Baggs resorts to having an untrained acquaintance set his arm. His left arm heals improperly, leaving Baggs unable to play piano. Without a means of making any more money, the Baggers family is facing starvation. Desperate, Baggs then signs up to compete in a game show called "Outlive" in which contestants from different parts of New Rome are paid to fight, often to the death, in the Colosseum before hundreds of thousands of fans.
