Producer Nils-Frederik Blixen is putting together a new television series call "Stagg at Bayl" Stagg is a broken0nosed, slope-shouldered detective who will have one half hour every week in which to solve a crime. When it comes to solving real-life crimes Blixen should be so speedy. His casting director, Joanna Redfern, is suspected of murdering her ex-boyfriend who became "ex" in a violent-and very public-argument. Blixen is certain Joanna will be cleared, but then two cops stumble onto the scene of a second murder and find Joanna, her hands slick with blood, bending over the body...
