Library Journal
Houston homicide detective Stuart Haydon is called to investigate a series of particularly gruesome torture murders. The plot quickly escalates into an investigation of massive international intrigue, greed, and corruption in Mexican business and right wing politics. Spiral is a gutsy, realistic, truly top notch thriller and Lindsey's Haydon has depth, sensitivity, and intelligence. Of particular note in this fourth Stuart Haydon novel are the poignant descriptions of the relationship between Haydon and his elderly collie and Haydon's reactions to the loss of his partner. Lindsey's powerful and vivid style enables the reader to taste the food, smell the foliage, sweat with the heat and humidity, and suffer (sometimes almost unbearably) the tension and violence of Houston in the summer. As Robert Parker is to Boston, Lindsey is to Houston. Spiral is very, very good indeed. Jean B. Palmer, Phillips Acad. Lib., Andover, Mass.
