Lou and Cassidy are having a pleasant breakfast when an old friend drops in.
Literally,
drops in, hurled through the window by the guy trying to kill him. Jefferson, the friend, is colored , Henry Pine, the man strangling him, is white, and after Lou joins the fight and the police arrive, it’s the colored guy—and Lou—who get arrested.
Welcome to civil rights in the sixties.
Henry Pine wants Jeff dead. For stealing his woman and being colored, both being capital offenses in the deep south.
But he’s in Chicago, with three of his dimmest cousins, and even guns and bombs aren’t working against Lou Fleener.
So Henry Pine grabs the ex-wife and takes the battle to his home turf—the back woods of rural Alabama.
Now Lou, Jefferson, and Monk have to figure out a way to rescue the woman and get Jefferson to safety in a place where every hand is against them.
Come along for another roller-coaster ride with Lou and find out if things are ever BLACK and WHITE.
