Pride, Prejudice & a Pen

When Jane Austen's life takes an unexpected and wonderful turn that changes everything...

When a cousin dies, Jane Austen is caught up in the wrangling for possession of a very grand English stately home—Stoneleigh Abbey. A place that will outshine her, up until now, imagined Pemberley. The ancestorial home of the noble Leigh family—Jane’s mother’s family. This is a place where Jane will experience pride, prejudice and the opulence of some of her wealthiest characters.

Her imagination is spurred back to life by this magnificent place, the noble people she meets and the things they say and do. Here, Lizzy's and Darcy's story gains a new lease of life and she picks up her pen for the first time in months…

The year is 1806

Jane’s writing had declined with her father’s health to the point that, when he died, she had no urge to write at all.

As she leaves the city of Bath, among her possessions is an early draft of Pride and Prejudice. Then, titled First Impressions (a draft that was different to the story we know today), a story that had been submitted to a publisher in 1797, and rejected.

The people Jane meets in this story and the places she visits are part of a true event that created a tapestry of memories she drew on for inspiration for many years afterwards.
