I've been in the Other long enough to know that my soulmate is out there. But after making a home in Delphi these last few years, I've given up on ever finding him. It doesn't happen for everyone. Just because there's this... this certainty that I have that he's waiting for me, it doesn't mean it's going to happen. And if it does? I've also been in the Other long enough to know that most of these stories don't come with a happy ever after.

So when the patron of our village shows up and tells me that I've been chosen? I go along with it. Why not? Every day is the same here, and it's about time I got to get out of Delphi. Even if Alex - Apollo - won't tell me what I've been chosen for. He's one of the Twelve. He doesn't have to answer any of my questions.

Neither does the man he brings me to meet .

The instant we meet, I forget all of my doubts. Here's the soulmate I've been waiting for. I know him, even if I don't actually know him, and I'm willing to follow him anywhere he wants to go. Love at first sight has nothing on me... mainly because Sebastian won't let me see him.

It's his one condition. He knows as well as I do that we're meant to be, but there's something else that Sebastian knows.

He knows the story we're living. The myth we can't escape. And he tells me not to worry about it. To trust him. To love him.

But how can I love someone who hides his face - and his heart - from me?

We were never supposed to separate. After my bride was made immortal, we were to live together forever. But the stories faded, the old ways forgotten, until we started to be reborn in the Other. I've lost track of how long I've waited to find her again. How many lives I've lived, how many chances I've lost. And then, out of nowhere, I find her in Delphi.

One look in her pale blue eyes and I know that this woman is meant to be mine. Not for just the run of our story. Not even for just a simple lifetime. Forever. I want the forever I was promised.

As the god of Love, it's easy to make that connection. We're two halves of the same whole - heart and soul - and I know I'll be complete once I have her with me again. I'll do anything to keep her, even lie about who I am and what I want from her.

It should be easy. My mother has yet to return to the Other, and without Aphrodite to interfere, it should be easy to convince Jolie to stay with me. I already know she's mine. I refuse to lose her again.

Still, after all this time, I should've realized that nothing in the Other is easy.
