A game that cheats. A team of misfits. An undead army hunting my ass. And that's just level one...

My name is Grant Palaski, and I was a low-level bug tester at the world's largest MMORPG, Kazaran Online. My dreams of game-writing slowly faded as I wallowed away as a lowly-tester, finding minor problems and filing reports for the programers. I didn't make waves, and nobody paid attention to me.

Or so it seemed.

One day, out of the blue, I was handpicked to lead a group of pro-gamers into Kazaran's new innovation.

Why? I have no clue, and I sure as hell wasn't going to ask...in case it was a mistake. The money's great, and the bragging rights are even better.

I entered the game as a human druid, exploring the lifelike, amazing world of Kazaran Online. Every facet of it feels real, from the scents and smells to the sounds of birds chirping from high treetops. Seriously, it's incredible.

But it turns out that not everything is beautiful in the land, especially when it comes to the Cerulean server.

The game is cheating, and nobody knows how or why. What they do know is that me and my team are locked into the game, stuck there until we reach level 50. On the plus side, I ended up with three excellent teammates, who are all badass in their own ways; on the negative side, the fourth guy on my squad is kind of a dick.

Oh, and have I mentioned that it actually flipping hurts when you get stabbed, bitten, gnawed on, and/or gutted?

I'm all for immersive games, especially when the food is great and there are no hangovers, but dropping in pain-prevention is definitely going to be high on my list of suggestions...assuming I make it out alive.

With the game going off-script, seemingly bent on destroying me and my adventuring pals, I have to wonder if I'm really the right guy to lead them to victory. Being the head honcho was never exactly my thing, but when your life is quite literally hanging in the balance, and you're responsible for more than just your own ass, you dig deep.

Bottom line: I have to guide my team through the muck, putting on my big-boy pants in the process.

If I fail, it'll be Game Over for good...
