When Richard of Pudlicott left his small Oxfordshire village to seek his fortune, he never dreamt that he would become involved in one of the most sensational crimes of the Middle Ages: the robbery of King Edward I of England's treasury in 1303. Based on actual historical events, Pudlicott's Confession tells the story of how a group of thieves broke into Edward's storehouse in the crypt beneath the Chapter House of Westminster Abbey and stole tens of thousands of pounds worth of treasure, and then lost it all.
