1972 Edgar Award for Best First Novel (nominee)
One of the first modern regional mysteries, this novel introduced the low key private eye, Albert Samson. Published in 1971, the book was the first of more than a dozen mysteries set by the author in Indianapolis, the most recent being in 2008. Ask the Right Question gave him the first of his three Edgar nominations. He's also received a Mystery Masters Award, a Raymond Chandler Society award and a Maltese Falcon Society award.
