40 Commando Royal Marines are professionals. When they are sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo to rescue European mineworkers and missionaries under threat from a rogue UNITA force, they arrive to find they are up against a considerable army with a sadistic commander. It is disorganised, but 2,000-strong, and it is only the courage and professionalism of the Royal Marines that makes possible a fighting retreat on foot through 40 miles of jungle to where HMS Winchester awaits them.
