“You appear to be labouring under the impression that you are in charge here, Lady Mary. Indeed, you have been most assertive in your attentions towards us. However, you must understand that is not how we work. There are three of us and only one of you. So, you will lie back on the bed and do as you are bid.”
It appears my son’s friends think me in need of their attention. True, I did have rather angry and vigorous correspondence with one of them on my drawing-room floor, but I had just been jilted by his father, the Duke of Denton. And perhaps I did take another in my mouth out on the terrace, before realising who he was – it is a masked ball after all. And so what if I rode a third like he was a stallion at the hunt? I was not to know he was my best friend’s son. I haven’t seen him in years.
But now, all three of them are tempting me into something I’ve never done before. And all I can think is ‘if only the duke could see me now.’
