. TRILOGY - Three mysteries by Marie Belloc Lowndes are bound together in this Kindle book: The Uttermost Farthing & The Chink in the Armour & The Lodger
The Uttermost Farthing
Both a mystery tale and a romance, The Uttermost Farthing is a suspense-filled book with unusual twists.
The Chink in the Armour
The novel begins with a fortune-teller and a warning of danger ahead. Despite that, the two women in the story -- both widows addicted to gambling -- decide to travel to gambling town of Lacville to try their luck. The book is a voyage of self-discovery mingled with the occult. While readers may begin to understand the "mystery" midway through the novel, that doesn't make the book any less suspenseful.
The Lodger (1913)
A thriller in the tradition of Poe. The Lodger is part mystery and part horror novel. It revolves around a series of murders that occur when a strange lodger moves in and insists on paying a large sum for simple accommodation.
