In the aftermath of the Civil War, the Texas economy collapsed. Confederate scrip was of no value and there was no Union money in circulation. It was hard on everyone, most especially the Confederate soldiers, many of whom were coming home to nothing. Many turned to robbery and even murder. A young man headed home from New Mexico to East Texas hopin' to build a life for himself on the property his father had claimed, but he returned to an enemy determined to steal everything the young man had. It's another tale from R. O. Lane, master storyteller of the Old West.
