Seek for Justice

(1981)
A novel by

Alan Fearnley stood apart from the mourners at his brother's funeral, uncertain of his welcome in the Welsh valley after an absence of fifteen years. Only Jeff's death in an accident had brought Alan back to the restrictive rule of Aunt Matty, from which Jeff had never escaped. Now, a successful accountant, at a crossroads in his professional and personal life, he had returned to his native Wales and found himself, almost immediately, cast in an unfamiliar role. Alan was used to scrutinizing figures; now he was asked to scrutinize facts, for someone was claiming insistently that Jeff's death was no accident.
An unsuspected talent had brought Jeff fame and fortune in the competitive world of professional darts. Greater fortune lay ahead - witness the mysterious cheque for 5000 among his papers which he had inexplicably left uncashed. But other people's fortunes also depended on Jeff's accuracy and skill in placing his darts. Was that why his game had recently deteriorated? Alan soon learned that the pressures on professional players can go beyond the simple need to win.
It is a new world to Alan Fearnley, but one thing becomes absolutely clear: more than one person had an interest in putting a stop to Jeff's career.
