This story was originally published in Day One, a weekly literary journal dedicated to short fiction and poetry from emerging writers.
C and F grew up together in a tight-knit community within Beijing, almost as close as brother and sister. Then a toxic disaster destroys everything and everyone they know, and only by a miracle - or, some might argue, bad luck - do they survive.
With their families gone and the government doing its best to cover up the disaster, the two friends have no one to turn to but each other. Together they attempt to live a new kind of life in an abandoned amusement park on the outskirts of the city. And as the days wear on, they must decide if it's a life that's even worth living.
Dark and timely, Wonderland speaks to how we make choices in an unfamiliar, incomprehensible world.
Genre: General Fiction
