Excerpt:

Serena dumped the coffees into the trash bin and then took out her secure keycard and tapped it on the elevator's terminal, punching in her special code. Food Research and Development was a very competitive field and they had some of the best security in the industry, even better than the CIA's, some said. Level B3 was a special secure zone underneath their office's building that was a dead zone for cell phones, Internet, and any type of radio communication. There were no windows and all the conference rooms were highly secured, with no video cameras or recording devices allowed inside. She deposited her bag and cellphone with the guard at the reception table and walked towards Conference Room 2. Still annoyed at this unexpected meeting, especially on such a busy day, she grabbed the handle roughly and opened it.
"Dr. Trenton, I don't know what this is about but--" Serene stopped short, her heart slamming into her rib cage.

Sitting on the opposite side of the small table was Cole Hawthorne, leaning back into the chair lazily, his arms crossed over his chest. "Hello, Serena."

She stood frozen on the spot, her mouth hanging open.

"Come in, and close the door behind you," he said in a low voice. She had no choice but to comply, his cold voice sending chills down her spine. "Now sit."

She walked over to the chair on the other side of his and sat down. "What are you doing here, Cole? This is a restricted area, and you can't come in here without the right authorization."

Cole's lips curled into a cold smile. "Since I own this building, I think I have every right to be here."

"Point taken."

He uncrossed his arms and leaned forward. "Now, as to the question of what I'm doing here... I think it's fairly obvious."

Serena's brows were knitted together. "I don't know what you mean."

"Oh I think you do," he said, and stood up to his full height. He strode to her side of the table and then leaned down to her ear. "You've submitted to me, Serena, that's not something you just brush off."

Her heart continued pounding, his warm breath tickling her ear, making her even more nervous. "Tell me Serena, have you been thinking of that night? So filled by thoughts that you can't concentrate?"

She remained still, but swallowed a large lump in her throat. It was like he could read her mind.

"You don't have to answer me. I know you have," he said softly. "When it's right, submission sets something on fire inside you. And there's only one way you can get rid of it."

"H-h-how?"

"By giving in. Let it burn and consume you," he murmured, placing his fingers lightly on her collarbone, brushing it back and forth. She could feel the heat radiating from his fingertips even with under her sensible white blouse.
