Perfection is a novel about an episode of religious fanaticism in sixteenth-century Germany. A group of Dutch Anabaptists become convinced that the world is about to end and Heaven will be set up on earth, and then that they themselves are called to set it up. By the time Heaven collapses, they have remade the laws, moved from communism to absolute kingship, and established polygamy. The story is but a microcosm of what is playing out in today's society
