Murder In Nettleton Top
(2022)(The first book in the Mrs. Pidgeon Cozy Mysteries series)
A novel by Anna Mara
No one should die on their birthday! It should be one of life’s rules. But that’s exactly what happens to mega-rich toy baron, John Newberry who is on everyone’s hate list.
Ontario, Canada. The unflappable high society columnist, Mrs. Nettie Pidgeon deftly handles any situation. So when party planning for the town’s wealthiest resident turns into a china-shattering squabble, she quickly steps in to diffuse tempers and keep the peace.
But her sincere belief in law and order doesn’t stop the mogul’s birthday bash from becoming a crime scene when the universally loathed businessman takes a fatal blow to the head.
Whip-smart and determined, Mrs. Pidgeon quietly begins to investigate, and learns that all partygoers and family alike had motive.
But whodunit and why?
Can Mrs. Pidgeon collect the right clues before a killer proves to be the better opponent?
Helping her along is her granddaughter Libby, who runs the Mrs. Pidgeon’s Café on Main Street; and her friends, Dr. Babs, the local doctor; and Lynnette Gale, owner of the town’s beauty shop where gossip rules the day, sometimes providing precious pieces to the puzzle.
If you like brilliant heroines like Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple, Murder She Wrote’s Jessica Fletcher and the quirky Agatha Raisin; and you like challenging puzzles and small-town backdrops, then you'll love Murder In Nettleton Top, bestselling author Anna Mara's fun-to-read, cozy mystery page-turner.

Murder in Nettleton Top by Anna Mara is a promising start to a new series. It’s fun to read and full of puzzling twists and turns that leave you scratching your head. The main character, Nettie Pidgeon, reminds me very much of a combination of Miss Marple and Murder, She Wrote’s Jessica Fletcher, always showing up when least expected and picking up on things even seasoned detectives miss! The characters are well-developed and are real people you can relate to – you may even see members of your own family in this story. As the story progresses, we learn more about the characters and what makes them who they are and, although it isn’t a high-action story, it is steady and flows well. If you enjoy cozy mysteries with plenty of puzzling clues, you’ll enjoy this one.
