Satan's Surrogate

A bizarre series of events occurs in the small college town where Gwyneth Underhill teaches British balladry. One of her students, inspired by the allegorical demons of the ballads, commits cannibalistic murder. Images of vampirism and death invade Gwyneth's dreams. Can the demonic shape-shifters of the Otherworld really exist? Have they been sent by the devil to kidnap, seduce and murder mortals? The answer lies in the ballads - "And first came out the thick, thick blood, And then came out the thin, And then came out the bonny heart's blood; There was no more Within."
