Dan Mayland recommends
The Bloodless Boy (2021)
(Hunt and Hooke, book 1)
Robert J Lloyd
"Lloyd fuses an infectious love of language and history with spectacular action, an irresistible young hero, and an ingenious mystery. What a delightfully erudite, impeccably well-crafted novel."
Isaac's Beacon (2021)
(Promised Wars, book 1)
David L Robbins
"The best historical novels not only illuminate the past, they define it. Isaac’s Beacon is one of those novels. Riveting, morally complex, fiercely intelligent, and as empathetic as it is sweeping in scope, Robbins guides readers through war-torn chaos to moments of rare, magnificent beauty. I feel like a better person for having read it."
Roundabout of Death (2021)
Faysal Khartash
"A masterful distillation of one of the great tragedies of the twenty-first century, as stripped of artifice and sentimentality as it is undergirded with insight and empathy. Roundabout of Death is essential reading."
