After a horrific housefire took her parents’ lives at Christmas, Abby has vowed never to celebrate Christmas again. Her fiancé, Sheriff Clint Sawyer, loves the season, but he understands Abby’s feelings.
Two weeks before Christmas Day, Clint finds Faith, a little girl of about four, standing by the desk in his jail. The child tells him her father left her there and will send for her later. When no one comes for Faith, Clint decides the only thing to do is take the little girl to stay with Abby while he hunts for the father. Trouble is no one has seen anyone who might have left Faith at the jail and Clint keeps running into dead ends. He begins to think he may have to turn Faith over to the orphanage after Christmas.
Abby is instantly drawn to the abandoned child and as the days go on dreams of adopting Faith after she and Clint marry. But Clint doesn’t think they should rush their wedding day just to adopt Faith. The child’s father could return and Abby would be crushed.
Abby is determined to win him over and together, they’ll find a way to keep Faith. She’s even willing to indulge the child’s happy anticipation of Christmas and agrees to get a Christmas tree. Even though a Christmas tree caused the fire that killed her family.
