Napalm in the Morning

(2021)
(The seventh book in the Battleground Vietnam series)
A novel by

Warrant Officer Carl Yeager finds Van Le, his beautiful and fiery Vietnamese fiancé, murdered in a Saigon backstreet. Nearby are the bodies of two CIA agents. The war just became personal.

Yeager falls apart. His first wife was murdered by a Vietcong bomber, and now it has happened again. His ambitious boss, Colonel Clark, takes advantage of his confusion and employs chicanery, outright lies, and manipulating his army service record, to persuade him to over the unfinished CIA investigation.

Yeager discovers the identity of the target is an embittered Marine major, a former company commander refused advancement because of his unit’s notorious record of slaughtering innocent civilians. He is located inside Cambodia, which means the Khmer Rouge. Assigned a reluctant unit of ARVN Special Forces, they suffer heavy casualties crossing the border. They reach the enemy base, but a bombing raid is impossible, due to the proximity of too many civilians. With no alternative, they must do it the hard way and mount an attack against overwhelming odds. The attack fails, and they retreat over the border. Yet Yeager isn’t finished. He wants payback, for his fiancée Van Le, and for all the others who’ve died at the hands of a bunch of deserters and butchers.

He hatches an ambitious but risky plan to lure the warband into a baited trap. The plan should succeed, provided Colonel Clark plays ball. Except Clark has another agenda, and he is more than happy to sacrifice as many men as necessary, including Carl Yeager, to achieve it. The climax is a spectacular battle of opposing forces from all sides.

A full-length novel by the bestselling author of many Spec Ops books. These include the popular SEAL Team Bravo stories, Heroes of Afghanistan, Raider, Echo Six, and Devil's Guard titles.
