Maude Jones was a foundling, an orphan left on the steps of the Howard House. Her whole life she's longed for a family of her own. Now all grown up she's willing to sacrifice her dream of a family with the only boy she ever loved for the love of her friend, Betsy Sewell. When an investor demands that the mine be reopened, Maude sends an ad to the Grooms Gazette for an Engineer to reopen the mine. Knowing that love and her dreams may never come true.
