Donna Macoan rushes into Father Tom’s office one morning, claiming that her statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary is shedding tears of blood. In spite of his efforts to keep the purported miracle quiet until it can be investigated by the Archdiocese, an article published in the Saint Francis Center student newspaper about it gets picked up by a major online Catholic news site. Hoards of miracle-seekers descend on Myerton, presenting a headache for Father Tom, Helen, and Cardinal Knowland. But when someone steals the statue, Father Tom and Helen realize they have two mysteries on their hands.
