Home from the Empire, the crews split up. Charlie has escaped to the Modloch home world. It doesn’t take Steven and Komoru long to get bored and with a new crew set off on a new adventure, to try and find out what happened to the expeditions from the Empire that failed to reach Earth. They find more than they bargained for, and the Federation orders them to once again take up the mantle of Ambassadors. Taking advantage of their renewed status they are then sent on one of the most dangerous missions they have ever faced; to broker a peace between a reptilian meat-eating race that likes to hunt and eat its guests, and the Federation.
Darrick has forced Charlie's new crewmates to become Modloch citizens and is putting pressure on them to accept Charlie as their Lord and master, which causes nothing but problems for Charlie. Thrown into this mix, is old man Smith, a mysterious old spy. If he gets his way, he will not only kill Charlie but spread a deadly virus throughout the Modloch Empire.
