Edith Whiting feels unloved because she's fat and ordinary. When she wins the Win-A-Role contest on her favorite TV series she is ecstatic to know she will be working with Brick Daniels, her favorite actor in the world, about whom she has fantasized since the series began. Working in TV is not as wonderful as she had dreamed. The actors and staff are not as she had imagined they would be, the director seems intent on making her life a misery, and Brick Daniels is fascinated with Edith's slim, sexy friend. Then there is Lupo deGermain, a hideously scarred actor who is as enigmatic as the character he plays... Edith has never felt so unlovely nor so unsure of herself, but as the shoot progresses she comes to realize that happiness in real life does not always resemble that on the television screen.
