When Juliet injures her ankle in a fall, she is forced to miss the season and remain at home, much to her chagrin. In order to vent out her frustrations on the unfairness of life, Juliet finds solace speaking with Daniel, the stable boy.
As the weeks pass, Juliet begins to see Daniel not as a man who can provide her with the finest of dresses but rather the love she needs in her heart. And although Daniel would wish nothing more than to be with her, he knows their relationship would surely be forbidden by her mother.
As Lord Parsons' calls become more frequent, a dark secret lingers over Scarlett Hall, and the voice of shadow past may force Juliet into the very arms of the man she does not love.
