Kathryn Ma

Kathryn Ma is the author of All That Work and Still No Boys, winner of the 2009 Iowa Short Fiction Award, and the recipient of the 2008 David Nathan Meyerson Prize for Fiction. She is a 2010 San Francisco Public Library Laureate and her book, a collection of short stories,was named a San Francisco Chronicle "Notable" Book and a Los Angeles Times "Discovery" Book.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Kathryn is the daughter of parents from Wuxi and Mengzi, China. Her work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prizeand Best New American Voices. Kathryn was a Fellow at the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference and is a 2011 Distinguished Writer-in-Residence at St. Mary's College of California. She is a member of the SF Writers' Grotto.Kathryn holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in history from Stanford University. She earned a JD from the University of California, Berkeley andpracticed law for a number of years in San Francisco. She is an active volunteerin the arts and education, serving previously as the founding board chair of theSan Francisco Friends School and currently on the Board of Directors of theOregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. Kathryn lives with her familyin San Francisco.
