Finding the Spotlight
(2023)(The first book in the Soul Collective series)
A Novella by Mandy Melanson
Wren
Three-fifteen. Three-fifteen in the morning and already my day had gone to hell. My boss called and told me she came down with the plague and wouldn't be at work tomorrow.
Guess who gets to cover for her?
Yep, me.
It's not that I don't know my job. I'm good at what I do. Never once did the thought cross my mind that my first assignment as a new tour manager for The Machine would be for Soul Collective. The most notoriously destructive rock stars to ever grace the headlines of the gossip sites.
Not to mention, Rush Williams. Voted sexiest man alive three years in a row with an ego to match.
This might be the end of my career before it even gets started. They might chew me up and spit me out before breakfast.
Rush
No one wanted a six-a.m. start. No one. Least of all me. The only thing that made it worse was showing up to find out our tour manager was out sick and we were getting a new recruit.
Rage. That's all I could feel in that moment because even after all the money we've made the label, they couldn't give us someone with at least a little experience.
Still, there's something about her that piques my interest. The way she had both hands on her hips and that look on her face that made me wonder if she might actually pull this off. One of the two of us is underestimating the other and I never lose a bet.
This'll be one hell of a ride, either way.
