Owen McKenna is a famous comedian known for blockbuster movies, sold-out arena tours and best-selling books. He’s also one of the many friends that Kate Reed made during the years that she worked as a private investigator in Chicago before returning to her Colorado hometown to take over the family business, Sky High Pies.
When Owen calls to announce that he’s coming to town for the grand opening of a new nightclub, Kate anticipates a long overdue reunion. But the plans are derailed when Owen becomes involved in a murder soon after he arrives in Crescent Creek.
To expedite the investigation, local police enlist Kate to consult on the case. As she interviews witnesses and retraces her friend’s steps, Kate learns that a Las Vegas police detective is in town asking questions about Owen and his traveling companions. As she digs deeper into the mystery, the clues begin to collect: a stolen duffel bag, a hotel room keycard, pink paint chips, a pair of coded messages, snakeskin boots and a fitness center locker key.
