I have no idea who my parents are. I was left on a fire station doorstep a long time ago and have lived my entire life in the human foster system. Fortunately, when I shifted at sixteen, I was in one where I shared a room with a fox shifter who knew what was happening and showed me how to keep my secret. But none of that saved me from aging out and finding myself about to be homeless on the street.

With only a few weeks left in this place, a plain brown package arrived for me. I opened it to find a letter from something called Shifter ancestry and a DNA test kit. My foster mom asked no questions when she handed me the box, mostly because she was not one of the “good ones.” As long as she got paid, everything was fine.

Now I’m on my way to the Werewolf Academy. Apparently, my DNA test met some sort of scholarship requirement. I have two half-sisters there, but I don’t think they know about me. I sure hope they know something about our mutual parent because I’m sick of floating through the world without a tether. Maybe they also share my gift? We’ll find out. I’m very ready to have a family and a place where I truly belong. And…if I’m truly lucky, maybe Fate will have a mate for me. But I don’t want to ask too much. I know better.
