Maggie is an 11 year old girl who has run out of things to read. So her novelist father writes a story for her entertainment, featuring a 13 year old girl named Shawnee. Maggie enjoys watching Shawnee suffer through every type of story in her father's book as he writes it-- from Fairy Tales to Dog Adventures to Alien Abductions. But Maggie learns something about Shawnee that makes her a much more sympathetic character. Is Shawnee just a character in a story, or something more? And can Maggie help Shawnee to live a life of her own choosing?
