Sabrina has done her best to be invisible in high school. After a disastrous middle school experience, all she wanted was to get through high school without being bullied for being a scholarship student. It was working well enough, until basketball star Alec needed a tutor and set his sights on her, not taking no for an answer.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to help him, it was more that she didn’t have the time. With her mother suffering from Alzheimer's, her brother no help, and an ex-boyfriend that didn’t want to be an ex, her life was challenging enough. Add on working to help pay the bills to keep her and her mom in their house, and she simply couldn’t do it.
Except Alec isn’t the type to take no for an answer. And when her brother flakes on her, putting her at risk of missing her scholarship interview, Alec shows he’s not a total ass by driving her to it, then sticking around to get her phone back to her after dropping it in his car. Against her better judgement, she agrees to help him—one-time only. Only to find that saying no to Alec is far harder than she anticipated, especially since he’d seen the real her.
Alec loved one thing—basketball. With his ability to play and graduate in jeopardy, he knows he needs the best help he can get. To him, that means the smartest girl in their class. She’s not his type at all—or at least he didn’t think she was, until he saw beneath the disguise she wore, and now, he’s intrigued. He wants to know more, and he’ll charm her however possible to get it. And possibly her at some point.
The last thing he expects is to be concerned about her, but that sneaks up on him far faster than expected, and when her one-time only turns into two, showing him even more who Sabrina is, he can’t walk away. He still wants her help to get him through the semester, still wants to get to know her—and her body, but surprisingly, he wants to help her as well. The responsibility on her shoulders is immense—something he can relate to with the pressure on him to perform for the basketball team, to keep them winning.
He didn’t know convincing Sabrina to help him would have him falling in love with her, or put them both in danger from her ex. But when both happen, he’s not about to run. He’ll do whatever he has to to keep her safe and convince her to go out with him. He knows it’s a longshot, but he happens to specialize in them on the court—off it can’t be that much harder, can it?
With mild language, no cheating, and a HEA, His Longshot is approximately 95,500 words. It is intended for an adult audience and may include subjects that are sensitive to some readers.
Author Note: This story is a slow burn, high school love story, that is tame, and alludes to rather than detailing physical intimacy, with some sensitive issues depicted. Includes mentions of domestic violence, assault, emotional and psychological abuse.
Genre: Romance
