In 1101 AD, our Horse Warrior is riding north to search for Georgio and kill Owen, the Welsh mercenary who took him. However, King Henry sends Malvais and De Clare to the dangerous island of Ynys Mon, a land of fierce Welsh warriors, impenetrable mists, and druids. Their impossible task is to entice Gruffudd ap Cynan, the powerful and feared King of Gwynedd, to leave his fortress island to meet King Henry, a Norman he hates and does not trust.
Amidst the turmoil, Conn Fitz Malvais finds solace in his forbidden love for the beautiful Rohese de Courcy, who is in Oxford carrying his unborn child. Unbeknownst to him, Owen, the Welsh mercenary, is also in Oxford, threatening Rohese and their child. Owen's actions will unleash a devastating chain of events, plunging Malvais into a deeper abyss of tragedy and sorrow.
Conn is on the brink of a breakthrough in his quest to find Georgio when a violent civil war erupts, throwing the kingdom into utter chaos. King Henry, consumed by revenge, targets the powerful and wealthy Montgomery brothers, led by Robert de Belleme. Caught in the crossfire, Conn is torn between his duty to the King and his search for Georgio, desperately hoping his friend is still alive in the clutches of his enemies.
