It is late summer in Reykjavik when a strange missing persons case is reported to the local police. A young man from rural Iceland who planned to camp in the capitol city has disappeared. Detective Grimsson is investigating the case. In his search for the young man, he focuses on the green areas of the city, among others the Ellida-river valley. The thick forest in the valley spreads between the two forks of the river and is bigger and more mysterious than it looks.
A few days later a brutal murder takes place in broad daylight in a home in the vicinity of Ellida-river valley. A young housewife is found lying in her blood. The crime scene is so horrible that neither detective Grimsson nor his associates have seen anything like it before. To make things even worse, Grimsson suspects that the two cases are connected and that the horror is far from over.
